About the event
Calcareous fens are among the rarest wetland types in the U.S., and the Okanogan Highlands are home to several of these unique ecosystems. In this talk, three local experts explore the geology, botany, and human history of Bonaparte Meadows, the largest calcareous fen in our region. Though impacted by human and natural disturbance, this remarkable place still supports rare plants, wildlife, and the surrounding landscape, with strong potential for restoration. We will also share updates on efforts to protect this special place in Okanogan County and how you can get involved.
Speakers:
Julie Vanderwal, Certified Ecological Restoration Practitioner
Josh Wozniak, Professional Wetland Scientist
Dana Visalli, Botanist and Editor, Methow Naturalist
