HORSEBACK RIDING

49'er Day in Winthrop

The Methow is rich with a long history of horse riding and horsemanship, providing a diversity of options for visitors wishing to spend some time in the saddle.  Riders traveling with their own horse can camp at any number of lovely trailheads, or spend a few days at the Mazama Ranch House, where both humans and horses will be treated like old friends.

There are peaceful, easy to access valley-bottom rides, or more rugged and striking terrain at the higher elevations.  The Methow Backcountry Horseman's Association riding guide is a good resource for newcomers looking for the perfect outing.

For visitors just wanting to get a taste of riding, local outfitters offer half-day trail-rides, chuckwagon breakfast outings, or even multi-day pack trips into remote wildness settings.  During the 49'er Days Weekend in Winthrop, enjoy the western flair and a show of horsemanship at the 49ers Parade.
